Ege Sayar (b. 1998) is a Turkish composer and guitarist. His music often develops a small number of musical ideas into intricate, evolving structures. Drawn to timbral detail, low registers, dark atmospheres, and contrast, he combines intuitive experimentation with close attention to how musical materials evolve and shape the listener’s experience. Questions of material necessity and hidden complexity, concepts he has developed himself, are central to his work. His influences include metal, jazz fusion, and traditional music from different cultures, alongside music from different historical periods. These influences inform his work without defining a single style.

 

Ege graduated with honors in composition from HKU Utrecht Conservatory, supported by a four-year talent scholarship. He studied with Jeroen D'Hoe and Caroline Ansink. During his bachelor’s studies, he completed an Erasmus exchange semester at HfMT Hamburg with Fredrik Schwenk. He is completing a master’s degree in composition with Sarah Nemtsov at Universität Mozarteum Salzburg, where he received a merit scholarship and worked as a departmental assistant for two years.

 

His music has been performed in more than 25 countries. He has collaborated with performers, ensembles, orchestras, and arts organizations, received awards and commissions, and participated in international residencies, festivals, academies, and workshops. He is co-founder and artistic director of Pod Collective.
